09/28/09 - The Homer Horizon

An array of "spooky" Halloween-esque events will kick off at the Homer Township Public Library Monday, Oct. 5.

Chad Lewis, co-author of "Illinois Road Guide to Haunted Locations" will be on-hand at 7 p.m. at the library, 14320 W. 151st St., to take guests on a "ghostly" journey through the most haunted places in Illinois. His stories include tales of phantom creatures prowling the woods to graveyard apparitions in backyards.

"Last year we had a similar author come out and it was so popular that we brought it back," said Alexandra Tyle-Annen, adult services director at the library.

On Tuesday, Oct. 27, fans of the "Twilight" book series or the "True Blood" television series may be interested in attending "Vampire 101", scheduled for 7 p.m. Martin V. Riccardo, author of "Vampires Unearthed" and "Lure of the Vampire", will examine the mysteries of the vampire in legend, film, fantasy and fact.

"Vampires are so popular these days and [Riccardo] is a hit with teens and 20-somethings," Tyle-Annen said.

Then at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, a professional storyteller will read spooky stories including "The Monkey's Paw", "The Tell-Tale Heart", and "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge".

"It's a family event, but it might not be appropriate for very little kids," Tyle-Annen added.

All events are free to the public. To register, call (708) 301-7908.
