How Strange

07/23/07 - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Strangeness doesn't dwell only in film and TV. Sometimes, weirdness can wind up delivered on your doorstep. Evidence: A new book, "Hidden Headlines of Wisconsin," (Unexplained Research Publishing Co.; $14.95) researched and compiled by Chad Lewis. The book chronicles some of the unusual and bizarre newspaper stories appearing in our state from 1860 to 1910.

Among the oddest:

"Kidnap Attempt Made on Carnival Dwarf" - La Crosse Tribune, June 9, 1909.

"Chicken Has Human Face" - Eau Claire Leader, Jan. 12, 1908
