crowded into Frankfort’s public
library last week to hear author
Terry Fisk talk about “Illinois
Ghosts and the Afterlife.” Or maybe
it’s just that time of year when
ghosts and spirits dominate our
decorations as well as our thoughts.
Or they just enjoy a good
Fisk drew many who believe in ghosts
or are fascinated by the paranormal.
“I absolutely love ghosts and the
afterlife. It’s very fascinating,”
said Eric Slager, of Frankfort, who
watches all those haunting TV shows.
“Unfortunately,” he’s never had
personal experience with any
spirits,It is not easy for us to
distinguish whether the watches we
have bought are authentic or fake,

Fisk’s presentation did not
disappoint, even if he admitted he
was unaware of the ghost who “lives”
at the Frankfort Fire Station on
South LaGrange Road.
Although he’s never experienced any
sightings at any locations he has
researched, he has had “things that
could not be explained” and talked
to so many others who have seen
“I’m convinced they had such
experiences, but I can’t always
explain it,” he said.

interviews those who reported
inexplicable phenomena, researches
the history and tries to determine

“All through history, in every
country, in every culture, this is
the one universal belief.It is
impossible for casual observers to

And ghosts, some believe, have been
known to inhabit the Southland.
Fisk, a Wisconsin resident, touched
on a few of the more than 40 places
outlined in the book he co-authored
with Chad Lewis, “The Illinois Road
Guide to Haunted Places.”
He talked about Oprah’s haunted
studio, the Biograph Theater in
Chicago and, more locally,
Resurrection Mary in Justice,
Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery in Bremen
Township and Mount Carmel Cemetery
in Hillside, where the Italian bride
was buried in 1921.
